He’s Brilliant! (Says his mother)
I don’t know if it has something to do with being home every day with Bean now and just noticing more about him, or if he is actually a brilliant genius. I suspect the latter. Lately, Bean seems to be doing all these new things all at one time. I can barely keep up with him.
Most of his brilliance is in the form of verbal communication. Quite simply, the boy takes after his momma and loves to talk. But he’s starting to actually say words now. He definitely knows that I am Momma and Chris is Dada. But he also says hi now, too. Its pretty darn funny. He’ll be sitting there, staring at you, and when you acknowledge him, he smiles and says, “Hi.” Super cute!
He also says, “No.” As in, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no…” Usually he says it at least 2,000 times. Just to make sure we get the message that he most definitely does not want to sit in his high chair any longer.
My favorite word right now though is when he chants, “ba ba ba ba ba.” He wants his bottle. He sees it coming his way and he starts calling out, “ba ba ba ba ba,” like a little sheep. Its pretty cute and makes me giggle every time!
Bean also has a new party trick! He can wave hello and goodbye (which actually looks more like he is conducting a symphony with one arm), but he can now give high fives! It is awesome! You hold your hand up and say, “High five!” and he’ll slap your hand with his. Then, if he wants to do it again (or 400 more times) he takes your hand and holds it up and then hits it with his.
Because he’s brilliant, you see.
I still can’t get him to high five any strangers and he takes a lot longer to do it when we’re out somewhere and he’s distracted. But we keep doing it everywhere we go and he’s getting quicker and quicker out in public. I’ll have this kid performing in the subways in no time.
Now, I realize that in comparison to some acts of brilliance such as curing diseases and discovering new galaxies, things like saying “ba ba” and high fiving might seem trivial. But make no mistake about it. Bean is a genius. This whole stuffing-Cherrios-down-his-diaper thing is simply a way to blend with the common folk.

That is great that he is already saying those “words”! My little one is 17 months old and she just recently started saying more and it is just amazing to me. What I always hear people say is that for the first few years all we want them to do is walk and talk and then after that we spend all of our time getting them to “sit down and shut up” (ha ha).

Haha, what a cute little punk he is! He looks like such a big boy in that first photo. He sounds like he’s getting to be a smartypants early on. Good for him. Next thing you know he’ll be reading to you!

I love this! It is so fun when they start saying words like that. Cute and smart? What more could you ask for?!
By the way…is this your new house and do you already have something hanging over your couch? We have lived in our house for about a year and have yet to hang the first thing. I really am a loser. Ugh.

Of course he is a genius? Was it a question?
I love those early verbal skills and I gotta say – not as common in boys. CLEARLY he is gifted.

lol Neither of my boys said anything close to that much at that age. Of course, the oldest one skipped all the baby talk and waited till he could talk in phrases and sentences. Both of them said “kitty” which was more like “kee kee kee” well before they tried anything else.
