Devil’s beatin’ his wife – duh! 😉
Annie @ Annie's Cooking Lab
That’s so cute! and this is random, but I have the same throw pillows on my couch that you have on yours!
Emily
I call it a “sun shower” when the rain falls while the sun is out!
Jen @ Caved In
How fabulously random. I dont think you have an accent at all. Our neighbors say things like “missourah” but I’m determined to not get an accent.
Betty
Fun, and I expected y’all to have southern accents, not sure why, I’ve heard you talk on here before…
Kaitlyn @ Going to Mexico
I agree with Mallory! It’s called the Devil’s beating his wife when it’s raining while the sun is out! 🙂
Hilary

Also I found a website with almost all of the same exact questions where you can answer it and it will computer your score to see if you’re more Northern or Southern : http://www.alphadictionary.com/articles/yankeetest.html because I was wondering what all of it meant after I watched your video!
Leah
I answered the same to just about everything. I grew up a little bit of everywhere but my parents are from East TN. This is so wrong but when it rained with the sun shining my dad use to say it meant the devil was beating his wife. This is from a good southern Baptist boy…no clue where he learned that!!
Kathleen
I’m so glad you say caramel and pecan correctly. Car’mel and Peecan make me want to slap somebody’s mama.
Claire
On behalf of all Australians, you definitely do have an accent. We’re the ones without accents. Also – buggy? Hilarious.
Nicole
Okay – I’m going to give my answers and only because I’m from Pittsburgh, PA and you pretty much wouldn’t understand anything I said if I said those words. Here we call it Pittsburghese. Yes, it is real. (www.pittsburghese.com)
1. TP-ing
2. Potato Bug
3. Pop
4. Tenny Shoes
5. Yinz
6.Daddy Long Legs
7. Nonno / Nonna
8. Cart
9. Devil’s Beating His Wife
10. Clicker / Remote
Also, some other phrases: Being “nebby” is when someone is being nosy. Iron is pronounced “arn”. Go to the website – you will be amused!
Christy
I’ve always called it a “sun shower” when it rains and the sun is shining. Too funny…loving the twang at the end there, Katie.

I also did plenty of this with my Hubby growing up and look forward to taking my twin boys to dO their friend’s homes when they get older. Here in Oklahoma we say y’all when addressing a group of people! Night y’all!
Stephanie @ Blonde Highlights

In Texas we say the Devil is beating his wife when it’s raining and the sun is shining.

Hi Katie & Chris, This is the first time I’ve commented on one of your blog posts but I’ve been following your blog for awhile now and absolutely love it! This video was super cute and kinda funny 🙂 Made me laugh, I’m from Prince Edward Island, Canada so let’s just say we have some strange ways of saying words haha
Cdawg
THANK YOU it’s always “Coke”! From Texas originally, currently living in Minnesota, where everyone calls it “pop”. BLASPHEMY.
Rebecca
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
A sun shower!
Katy @ MonsterProof
How odd, I agreed with most of the words’ pronunciation, but almost none of your answers. And, “sun shower” for me. 🙂
Bec
I grew up in Wisconsin and now live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and though you may not have a traditional southern accent, you definitely talk differently than we do in the Midwest. Things we say different are: caramel, pecan, coupon..and i’ve never heard of “rolling” it’s TP’ing here, and what the heck is a roly poly and a buggy?! LOL. And of course the whole Coke thing is nonexistent here. It’s pop or soda. Fun stuff though.
Kimberly @ The Sparks Life
Haha…so funny. I called it TPing it when you toilet paper someone’s house. And I have no clue what the rain and sunshine question is either.
Courtney
I loved this. You guys says route funny I think. And it’s pecan, not peecan. I actually said “hi chris” like he could hear me. Not weird at all right?

That was great! I am an ESL teacher, so dialect is right up my alley. I say route like rowt and caramel like car-mel. I also Tee-Pee a house, drink pop, and wear gym shoes. And buggy? That’s hilarious. We use carts in Minnesota 🙂
Check out the book “Made in America: An Informal History of the English Language in the U.S.” by Bill Bryson. It’s hilarious.
Jenna@CallHerHappy
Love this idea! I might have to link back to that! Also, you sounds like you are from Michigan because you sound just like me (minus buggy, coke and rolling…i say shopping cart, pop and TPing)

I think people’s accents come out more in context, like when sentences are read. I actually feel sad sometimes that some of the regional accents seem to be going away.
Carlene
We have all the same answers…yay for Pensacola girls!
