Happy 8th Birthday, Bean!

Yesterday Bean Man turned 8 years old.  He was lucky this year and his birthday happened to fall on the first day of summer vacation, which was a coincidence that definitely needed to be celebrated.  So, our family spent the afternoon at Disney and Bean set our entire itinerary. He just finished reading the first book of the “Kingdom Keepers” series, which is an adventure series that takes place in the parks of Disney World.  The first book is set in the Magic Kingdom, so that’s where Bean wanted to…

Spring Break Staycation: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Spring Break for our schools was last week, and we left no stone unturned.  I love that I get the same breaks as my kids do because it means I’m super excited to be out of school, too!  We spent most of our week just hanging out and running errands.  We swam in our swimming pool for the first time this year, went to the dentist, visited Nana and Grandma, finally got Gracie’s bedding for her new big girl daybed (Ikea, of all places!), and did some spring cleaning and laundry.…

The Festival of Gracie

The term “birthday” is so misleading. “Birthday” (singluar) would seem to imply that the celebration lasts a single day. Our family is either doing them so right or totally wrong because birthday celebrations around here last about a week. And – whew! – are they some kind of exhausting excitement! On Tuesday, sweet Gracie Girl turned three-years old. Hard to believe, isn’t it? Her birthday celebrations began last Sunday when we had her official birthday party. This was the first one that we’ve had for Gracie that was for her…

When Children Change Your Lives

Recently, I saw a preview for the Dreamworks movie “Delivery Man,” starring Vince Vaughn.  It looked like something right up my alley.  The perfect comedy of errors which leads to self-reflection and improved character.  (Pretty hefty meaning for Vince Vaughn, right???)  The movie is a hilarious and heartfelt movie about a man who goes on an unexpected journey to find his children that he never knew he had. Watching the preview in the movie theater made me stop and think about how drastically mine and Chris’ lives have changed since…

Fairy Sisters

Two of my favorite things have come together in this review: my sister and Disney. Really. Life doesn’t get much better than that. A few weeks ago, Disney sent me a special sneak peak at their new fairy movie, “Secret of the Wings.” It is a super, super cute movie. Even Gracie, who never watches television, sat through it. † The story is about these two fairy sisters: Periwinkle is a Winter Fairy and Tinker Bell is a Summer Fairy. In the movie, they can’t cross over into each other’s…

Cars 2 Weekend

This past weekend, we took the fam to Downtown Disney for a promotional event for the upcoming Cars 2 movie. Bean is a professional Cars fan. He has the t-shirt, the PJs, the slippers, the toys, even Cars bed sheets. So, when we found out about Cars 2, we were pretty sure Bean would die of happiness. And then we heard about the Cars Master Weekend at Disney and we thought, “How sad. Bean is going to die of happiness before he even has a chance to see the new…

A Spontaneous Adventure

Last Thursday, Bean and I were out running a few errands.  We left the house around 9:00am and my plan was to be back in time for lunch.  As I was getting ready to get back on the interstate after stopping by the first of my errands, I noticed a sign that said Downtown Disney This Way, and it had an arrow that indicated it was about 10 miles away. Bean and I were supposed to leave the next morning to spend the weekend at my parent’s house, so I…

Bean’s Birthday at Disney: Part Two

Our visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom for Bean’s first birthday was as perfect as a fun day can be.  We had friends who told us that we should head right to the safari ride as soon as we got to the park to beat to lines.  For this ride, you climbed into a big safari vehicle and headed out through the jungle and into the open wildlife of the African plains. The animals were free roaming through this park of the park and there was nothing between you and them. …

Totally Worth It.

This past weekend we ended a week-long celebration of Bean’s birthday at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  Now, the animal kingdom isn’t really my cup of tea.  I’m more along the lines of the thrill seeker type.  Actually ANY other park would have suited me better.  Magic Kingdom has a few pretty good rides, Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM) has a great roller coaster and the Tower of Terror, you can drink around the world at Epcot, Seaworld has two great roller coasters and they give you two free beers, and Universal Studios…

Bean’s Birthday at Disney: Part One

We celebrated Bean’s first birthday at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this past Saturday and I can’t even tell you how perfect the day was.  First of all, Bean looked awesome.  More awesome than ever, actually, because he was themed. I dressed him in a little safari outfit – complete with a hat.  And the best part was that the shorts were bathing suit trunks, so when it got hot I could get him wet and the shorts would dry really quickly. But more than his outfit, Bean was just a pure…
