Little Rays of Sunshine

It has been a gloomy couple days down here in central Florida.  Hot, muggy weather that makes you want to pout and take a shower.  When I’m having a blah week like this, I have a couple sure-fire pick me ups that I go to.  These can be good to cure a case of the rainy weather glooms, or on days when you’re feeling out of sorts, or when you get in a fight with your best friend or your husband, or when you’ve waited all day long to come…

Blooming

I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts, for obvious reasons, I guess. It has really been bothering me, though. My dad passed away the week before classes started, which was the week of pre-planning for teachers. That is the week that you spend getting your classroom all set up, your lessons planned for the first few weeks of school, and taking care of all the administrative crap that comes with teaching. Because I missed that week, I have felt off at school ever since it started four weeks ago…

New Ears, New Baby

Gracie has had tubes in her ears for two weeks now, and I cannot get over what a difference they have made in her personality. I knew (or I hoped) that they would make a difference in her health, and they have. She hasn’t been pulling on her ears, running fevers, or battled a runny nose since the procedure, which is really abnormal for her. But more than the health advantages, it’s her personality that has us the most amazed. They did a hearing test for Gracie when we went…

Happiness and the Rearview Mirror

Ever since Chris started graduate school at Yale, I’ve had this sticker on the back of my car. It’s a simple sticker that says, “Yale University.” At first, it was a badge of honor because I thought it was so cool to actually know someone who went to Yale. After the novelty of the school wore off, I kept it on my car because I was so proud of Chris for what he had accomplished. When he graduated and started working in New York, we kept our connection to Yale…

Costa Rica Bound!

I get asked a lot about the trip to Costa Rica that Chris and I are taking at the end of March. We were recipients of the “Gift of Happiness,” which is an eight-day stay in Costa Rica at beautiful hotels, doing adventurous activities, in exotic locations. Sounds pretty darn happy to me. But whenever people would ask me about it, I sort of avoided the topic. There were two reasons. First, there was this tiiiiiiiny little problem with my passport. Like, the fact that I didn’t have one. Years…

Operation BWYP: Things My Sister Taught Me

My sister is coming into town today.  She and her brand, spankin’ new husband, John Michael, are flying in to celebrate the 4th with all of us.  Chris and I are picking her up at the airport tonight and then we’re all heading up to my parent’s house for the weekend.  I’m so excited!  I haven’t seen her since her wedding extravaganza in April. Ginny and JM on their honeymoon in Maui. My sister has always been one of those people who lives a crazy life.  At least, compared to…

Finding Happiness as a Stay at Home Mom

Waaaaaay on back when Bean was born ten months ago (it really does seem a whole lot longer than that, doesn’t it?), I had to adjust to being a working mom.  Going back to the office after three months on maternity leave with him was really tough, but I learned to appreciate daycare for the experiences it was giving Bean and I learned to love my job even more for the experiences outside of the house that it gave me.  It became a really great thing for our family. Since…
