Dear Santa… (Part 2)

I shared a few weeks ago about toys the kids have had throughout the past few years that are still huge hits around our house. I thought today I’d give you a sneak peak as to what Santa will be bringing them THIS year. Just don’t tell the kiddos that Santa has a big mouth… Bean’s big gift this year is going to be a bike. He saw this cool one at Toys R Us, and has been talking about it ever since. We’re getting him the bike and a…

Dear Santa…

I realize that it is October.  But in my family, Christmas shopping starts early.  In preparation for the holiday shopping season, I thought I’d share a few toys around our house that have withstood the test of time.  These are the best bang for your buck gifts that have lasted us through two kids and multiple developmental stages.  If I had to do it all over again, these are the toys I’d buy… Little Tykes Rocking Horse ($37.67; Recommended age: 1-3 years old) – This toy is probably the most…

Magnetic Race Track

Hi friends! What a great few days we have had talking about food for wee ones! I had no idea it would be such a popular topic. It actually makes me feel so much better because it seems that we all struggle with the same things from time to time. Whew! I have gotten a lot of email, tweets, and FB messages this week asking me specific questions about our feeding/eating routine at our house. I had planned today to do a final food post that answered all those questions…

Birthday Presents, Part Two

Last week I posted on some of the birthday presents Bean got so that you can see what he’s playing with these days.  At the video chat this week someone reminded me that I hadn’t done the second part of his gifts and so I thought I’d follow up with that today. Bean’s Grandmomma Jackie gave him a set of the big, oversized Legos.  I wasn’t sure he’d know what to do with them yet, but he definitely understands.  He needs Chris and I to sit with him and help…

Birthday Presents, Part One

Bean has some pretty wonderful and generous people in his life and so his first birthday party was like a mad dash through Toys R Us.  I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for new toy ideas for Bean, especially since I started staying home with him.  He had such a wide variety of engaging activities at daycare and I want to be sure he has that same experience at home, too.  So, I thought I’d share what Bean is playing with right now. My friends, Sarah…

Out With the Old, In With the New

As Bean’s first birthday approaches, I have been taking stock of his toy situation.  He’s doing pretty good in that area.  In fact, he rivals a Toys R Us.  But since I know he’s getting ready to get a whole lot more for his birthday from family, I decided it was time to clean out his toys.  I am a big believer in not collecting too much stuff in your life.  You use what you use and then you give away what you don’t so that other people can use…

Fridge Fun

When I was leaving Connecticut, one of my co-workers gave me a little something for Bean to play with at our new house.  It was a LeapFrog Fridge Phonetics Magnetic Letter Set ($29.99 on Amazon).  It was the coolest toy I’d ever seen. You put these letters on your fridge, just like normal letter magnets… And these letters plug into this little dog house… And when you snap the letter in, the dog house plays a little song about each letter.  It takes alphabet magnets to a whole new level…

Eleven Months Old

On Saturday, Bean turned eleven months old.  We were at my parent’s house for the day, playing in their community pool with my mom and grandma.  We had so much fun that I hardly noticed what day it was.  But that afternoon when we got home and Bean laid down for his nap, my Mom mentioned something about starting to plan his first birthday party. Holy crap.  My baby is about to turn one. Month eleven has been so stinking fun.  It was such a “go” month for us.  First,…

My First Day as a Stay At Home Mom: FAIL

Today was my first day as a stay at home mom. Holy crap. That’s pretty much all I have to say about that. Holy crap. Let me start this post by saying that I do plan to go back to work. Eventually. When someone decides to hire me. But that’s probably at least a couple months away and so for now, I’m relishing these first new days as a stay at home mom. I’ll take them for as long as I can get them. Howeva’… Holy crap. It is NOT…

Bean’s New Toys: Part Two

This year, one of the big gifts that Santa brought Bean was this little scooter.  I loved it…er,…I mean, Santa loved it because it has stages to it.  For now, we have it folded down into the scooter so that Bean can sit on it, but it also extends into a pushing cart that he can push around when he learned to walk.  I didn’t think he’d actually be able to balance enough to sit on it yet, but he was a pro.  His favorite thing to do though is…
