iPhones, Technology, and Grandmomma’s

On Monday, Bean and I were driving home from school and he had his toy cell phone in his hand. He held it up to his ear and very clearly said, “Hi Grandmomma!” He went on to have a 10 minute pretend conversation with Chris’s mom and when we turned into our neighborhood, he said to me, “Grandmomma home?” It broke my heart to tell him that she wasn’t there, so instead I told him that she was in Daddy’s phone and that we would talk to her that night.

It was hard to get schedules to line up, so it wasn’t until tonight that Bean got to chat with her.

Chris and Jackie both have the new iPhones and so they can video chat really easily. It has been so nice for Bean because while he sees my parents all the time, he doesn’t get to see Jackie as often. The video chats help Bean to see and hear her so he really knows who she is.

He listens to her talk and he runs around the house yelling, “Grandmomma!” as he shows her his favorite toys.

I love that they not only get to talk, but actually interact with each other. That is so much easier for Bean to understand than just talking through a phone.

Bean’s a lucky dude to have such involved, wonderful people in his life. I’m so glad he’s able to grow up with that kind of support system. They used to say it takes a village to raise a child. These days, it takes some awesome grandparents, a little technology, and an iPhone.
