iPhones, Technology, and Grandmomma’s
On Monday, Bean and I were driving home from school and he had his toy cell phone in his hand. He held it up to his ear and very clearly said, “Hi Grandmomma!” He went on to have a 10 minute pretend conversation with Chris’s mom and when we turned into our neighborhood, he said to me, “Grandmomma home?” It broke my heart to tell him that she wasn’t there, so instead I told him that she was in Daddy’s phone and that we would talk to her that night.
It was hard to get schedules to line up, so it wasn’t until tonight that Bean got to chat with her.
Chris and Jackie both have the new iPhones and so they can video chat really easily. It has been so nice for Bean because while he sees my parents all the time, he doesn’t get to see Jackie as often. The video chats help Bean to see and hear her so he really knows who she is.
He listens to her talk and he runs around the house yelling, “Grandmomma!” as he shows her his favorite toys.
I love that they not only get to talk, but actually interact with each other. That is so much easier for Bean to understand than just talking through a phone.
Bean’s a lucky dude to have such involved, wonderful people in his life. I’m so glad he’s able to grow up with that kind of support system. They used to say it takes a village to raise a child. These days, it takes some awesome grandparents, a little technology, and an iPhone.

Since we Skype with Aaron’s parents once a week, we think Porter thinks they live in Aaron’s computer. And last week while Aaron was in Atlanta, we did Skype with him but I showed the video through our television. Later that night Porter was very upset that we couldn’t put the “daddy channel” back on 🙁

I think Bean’s face in the last picture says it all…he’s SO excited! And adorable!

That’s a great feature! Does it only work between iPhones?
Also, Bean is so cute that I might just eat him up. Seriously. hide him or something because I would at least squeeze the poop out of him!

This is so great! Our parents aren’t too far away, but we keep meaning to set up the webcams/Skype on our computers and still haven’t. The look on Bean’s face makes me want to do it right now!

My daughter loves to Skype her Nana who lives right in town and her brother (my stepson) who lives in Alabama.
I also got to see my coworker through I-Phone Skype while he is in Kuwait! That was awesome!!

i have a MacBook Pro and LOVE it. by far my favorite thing on it is iChat…we use skype and gchat too, BUT iChat you can do with multiple users – so when my Mom and Sister fight over who gets to see my little girl via the world wide web, we can all join the party via iChat! here is a post I recently did about it http://laurentrain.blogspot.com/2011/01/technology.html – if you and Ginny and your parents all feel the need to chat, this is an uber fun way to pull it off! …and now stepping off my iChat soapbox 😀

That is so great! It warmed my heart to see the pictures of him so excited to talk to his grandmomma. 🙂 We didn’t have anything like this when I was a kid (obviously), so my mom used to have photos of everyone all around and show me who it was we were talking to.

Love Bean’s shirt!

Oh my gosh! That post was so cute that, even though I’m totally against spending more than $20 on a phone, I might run out and buy an iPhone for me and for Grandma!

We have a similar situation with my parents being in another state, which is so hard, especially now that we have a baby. Skype has been so awesome so that they can see James and he can hear and see them too. I want him to know them and recognize them when they come to visit!
