Finishing Touches
We are two weeks away from Gracie’s arrival and I think the nursery is finally done.ย I had been feeling a little bit like the room wasn’t quiiiiiiite done yet, but couldn’t put my finger on what was missing.ย And then two very important pieces of the puzzle came together.
First, a super talented, super thoughtful blog reader named Jordan sent me these beautiful letters for Gracie’s nursery.ย I had been trying to find block letters, but hadn’t been able to find *the* ones.ย And then Jordan, a longtime blog reader who I feel like I really know, sent me an email asking if she could attempt these paper mache letters she had been thinking about.ย She said I didn’t have to use them, she just wanted to try them out.ย But as soon as I opened the very first letter, I knew these would be front and center in the nursery.ย Aren’t they beautiful?
I love that they are a shade darker than the wall color, too. It adds a little depth to the room, I think. What I also love about them is because they are paper mache and not wood, they are super light. I get a little nervous putting anything heavy over a baby crib. What if it fell in the middle of the night??? (That’s my paranoid maternal brain working in overdrive, by the way…) But these letters are as light as Styrofoam. If they were to fall, they wouldn’t do any harm.
The second big thing that made a difference in the room was that I finally got the mirror replaced on my vanity. FINALLY! I am so excited!
Because it is straight across the room from the window, the natural light reflects so brightly in there now. I am just so happy with it!
You can see that I have moved the mobile from directly over the crib to the corner. I wanted to make sure it didn’t hide the letters over the crib. I might end up moving it back once I see if Gracie has any interest in looking at something while she’s dozing off. Bean never really cared for one, so if Gracie ends up being the same way I’ll probably just leave the butterfly mobile in the corner like it is.
That’s all I’m going to do in the nursery until Gracie gets here. Having a baby in the room naturally causes things to shift and change as we find out what she wants and prefers to have around her. We’ll be moving the swing and bouncer out when she’s finally here and that will change things again. So, for now I’m happy with how it looks and am good with just sitting tight on any more additions until she’s here.
(Did you hear that, Gracie? We just need you to get here!!)

I have been waiting and watching your posts to see if she has arrived! Every time you disappear for a couple of days, I get excited that she may have arrived!
I do love the letters! They are a perfect touch, and the vanity looks amazing all finished! ๐

The letters (and the whole room really) looks super cute!
You might consider hanging the mobile over the changing pad. We had a similar one that I made hanging over our rocking chair, which was directly beside the changing pad. When Molly was really little, she loved the changing table – it actually soothed her – because she loved staring at the mobile so much. It made those unending diaper changes just a little bit better.

Okay, I feel like I need to come clean here. I did not make and send you the letters! As much as I wish I had the skills to make something like that, twas not I. I noticed your shout out to me on twitter, and came to read the post. It must’ve been another awesome gal named Jordan and I don’t want to steal her thunder!
Ahh, that feels better to get off my chest ๐

So excited and those paper mache letters are the perfect touch! Just a thought, but maybe you could stick the mobile over the changing table too?

Love, love Grace’s name over the crib. Can you ask Jordan to do a tutorial or update the post with a link on how to make these? I’d love to make them for my little one arriving in June, especially since I was concerned about the weight of wooden letters as well. Thanks!

Cute nursery and just so girly. I love it. ๐
Here’s an idea for the mobile… I’ve recently noticed that a lot of people are hanging mobiles above the changing table to give the baby something to look at while getting their diaper changed. It would look cute hanging there in Gracie’s room…Just a thought!
forty and trying to be fab
I love your nursery. It’s beautiful! I have to say though that my favorite part is the vanity. I had one like that when I was young and loved it. I think it’s a lovely piece of your past and it looks awesome:)

Her nursery is so beautiful and sweet! Just like your little girl will be. ๐ I’m living vicariously through you in your pregnancy. I’ve got two boys 4 and 6 and we’ve gone through three failed pregnancies within the past year. So seeing this is giving me a great dose of baby! Can’t wait to meet her!

I love love the letters! I just must have a boy version for my little man, any chance your mystery maker would like to make some and send them all the way to Australia? ๐
