Webbed Toes

This morning I am taking Bean to a different splash pad than the one we normally go to.  This one is supposed to be bigger and even better than the one close to our house.

I’ve discovered that water is the key to playing outside in Orlando.  When it is so stinkin’ hot outside, it is simply no fun at all to play.  Both Bean and I are drenched in sweat by the time I get him out of his car seat.  We just can’t hang in this heat for very long.

Unless there is water.

Oh, how Bean loves the water.  I always think he’s going to be scared or nervous or something, but he just heads into the spray like he’s a duck.

Which is why every morning when he wakes up, I check his feet to see if he’s grown webbed feet over night.  He hasn’t.  Yet.

To keep things interesting, we play with a lot of different types of water.  We go to the pool or we play in Bean’s little backyard pool.  We play with the water table he got for his birthday.  But, without question, the splash pad is Bean’s absolute favorite.

How are you keeping cool during the summer?

Its winter here in australia but im really looking forward to spring & summer. Cute pics! It looks like Bean is having fun and what a great way to cool down!

We also go to splash parks to stay out of this heat. We live in Florida also and I have a little boy that is 15 months so just a little older than Bean. But it is funny because as I read your blog he reminds me so much of my little Lucas. Just an all around happy baby boy.

we go to our community pool at least once a week and play in the sprinkler in momah’s (grandma) backyard and we have also ventured to a great indoor playground that isn’t too far from our house, it’s great! trampolines, slides, ball pits, dress-up area, mini bounce house…this place has it all, perfect for south florida play time, cause it’s hot!!!

My main question is, why the heck are these not here in Texas?!? I would be the one weird adult with no kids who is laying in the middle of the pad. Maybe it’s a good thing they’re not available here! He looks too cute by the way!

There is one at the Fountain Place building (the pointy, angled, rocket-ship building) in downtown Dallas (or there was the last time I was there). It was always packed with kids on the weekends. So much fun!

It is hard to keep cool in south Georgia! Unless we are hanging out by the pool, my friends and I opt to stay inside, at least during the hottest parts of the day (which, when it’s 80 degrees at 8am, all parts of the day are the hottest). I have to drink lots of water and endulge in lots of ice cream! It’s a tough job!

I try not to. Usually, I’m dancing around the edges yelling above the water, “You okay, buddy?!?!?” I think Bean pretends I’m not related to him.

that is so cute, him sitting in the middle by himself.

we go to the pool at lot. are there children’s museums there? we have one that is great here in houston for when it gets hot.

I wish we had these in New Hampshire – for when it isn’t snowing! Next trip to Florida and I am finding one! And maybe I will even bring the baby!

I love that he is sitting right in the center of the splash pad like he owns it! We love to play in the water too! This July has been especially wet in Oklahoma so we just have to go outside and play in the rain!

Katie you gotta join him!! I usually let a few sprays hit me so that I cool down a bit. We go to splash pads, pools and soon we will go to a lake as well. I am up in New Hampshire but we have a heat wave making the temps around 100 this week… too hot for me!

LOVE it, looks like so much fun!
Never seen these splash pads before you posted about them.
I’m gonna figure out how I can have one built in my back yard! Can I hire Chris?! LOL

what a great idea – I love that they have those for kids! We’re just staying inside right now. 100 degrees is too hot in my opinion to do much of anything. 🙂 I’m fair and m little five month old is too so I’m worried to get him in the sun too much. We’ll wait until it cools down a bit!

I wish that I needed to keep cool. I live in Ireland and its raining cats and dogs right now! I love your blog by the way!

Oh I so want to hang out at the splash pad, why don’t they have those here? Oh right, they would shoot icicles at people most of the time.

I currently live in your hometown and it’s killing me that the oil spill has messed up everything That’s where I always went to cool off- the beach. It’s really not as bad as the news is making it out to be, but I’m a little wary of getting in the water. Now I just stay inside :(. The Blue Angels are here this weekend(which I’m sure you already know)- are ya’ll planning to take Bean to it one year?

I just bought a kiddie pool for our boys, and they splashed me so much that next time I’m going to put on my bathing suit, too, just to sit outside the pool and keep an eye on them.

Q-Tip is the same way!! She’s gonna go nuts on Monday…we start swimming lessons. I’m a tiny bit excited myself. Wish there was a way to take pics but I don’t think I could tend to her and take pics. I need a professional family photographer to follow us around. lol…

I think she would totally love that splash park. I don’t think we have any of those around here. At least I’ve not heard of any. Guess I need to dig a little deeper.

I love splash pads! My mom used to take me and my cousins every summer. We live in Atlanta so we go to the one at Centennial Olympic Park.. If you ever visit Atlanta you HAVE to take bean! Its like 5 times bigger than the one I’m sure you’re used to and there are always lots of other kids there… here’s a pic
