Meet My Sister

I’ve talked about my sister several times on this blog before.   I told you about the time she brought her boyfriend home to meet my parents.   And I told you about the time that her boyfriend proposed in front of my entire family.   And I told you about the time that her fiance brought her tampons.   And I told you about having Thanksgiving at her house this year.

Ginny is an important part of my life because for as funny and exciting as her life has been, she is actually a huge force that keeps me grounded.   There’s nothing better than calling her after a long day or when I’m in the middle of a particular crisis and having her say to me, “Kate, get over it.”   She’s a tough love kinda girl and I love that about her.

Because I have such a great relationship with Gin, I feel like you guys should know her better, too.   Then we could all hang out and drink wine and play charades and talk about food and how much we love Johnny Depp.   So today’s post is all about Ginny.

35 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About My Sister:

1.   She is a complete germophobe and she always has Purell within an arms reach.

2.   She is afraid of people’s eyeballs.   If they show eyeballs in movies, Ginny freaks out.

3.   When we were 5 or 6 years old, I locked her in the sewer in front of our house for a couple hours because the neighborhood friend who was the only one strong enough to lift the sewer drain lid had to go to football practice.

4.   She calls Bean every afternoon on our way home from daycare and sings songs to him all the way home.   Every. Single. Afternoon.   And she sings like she’s the next big contestant on American Idol.

5.   Ginny thinks she has the most beautiful voice in the world.   And that’s all I’m going to say about that.

6.   She once dated an airline pilot and now she can’t fly out of the A terminal in the Atlanta airport.

7.   She was President of her sorority in college.

8.   Every one of my male friends wants to marry my sister.

9.   Every one of Chris’ male friends wants to marry my sister.

10.   Ginny took my high school crush, Neil Tucker, to her senior prom and she called me when I was away in college to gloat about it.   I didn’t speak to her for a week.   But I still love you, Neil…

11. She left a high profile PR firm in Atlanta where she was quickly climbing the ladder to move with her fiance to the middle of nowhere Virginia because her fiance was transferred there to build a hospital.

12.   Ginny now teaches a 4-year-old classroom in a Christian daycare.

13.   Ginny wants babies.   Lots and lots of babies.

14.   She denies wanting babies.

15.   She is getting married in April.

16.   My parents and I have a bet going as to how long after Ginny gets married until she has babies.   I say two months.

17.   When I was in kindergarten I used to cry for my sister and they would have to bring her up from the preschool classroom to sit at my desk with me.

18.   I steal her clothes.

19.   She steals my jewelry.

20.   Ginny has two earlobes in one ear.   I have always loved that about her.

21.   She is one of the only people, other than me and Chris, that Bean will go right to without any hesitation and he’s only met her twice.

22.   She always, always smells good.

23.   She was Homecoming Queen at our high school.

24.   She was Miss Gulf Breeze at our high school.

25.   She broke up with a guy one time on the spot because he tried to buy her a house.

26.   Ginny and I have agreed to never play Monopoly again together for the rest of our lives because she cheats and I am a poor loser.

27.   Ginny doesn’t use air conditioning when she drives her car because she thinks it wastes gas.   Even though the MythBusters have clearly proven this is, in fact, a myth.

28.   I am throwing Ginny’s bachelorette party weekend in New York in March.

29.   She always wears an apron when she cooks.   Usually a frilly one.

30.   When Ginny was in college, she used to use the gas money from our parents to take her laundry to the cleaners and have them do it for her every week.

31.   She is easily the funniest person I know.

32.   I have never met a person that my sister couldn’t talk to and find some common ground.

33.   Ginny is a golfer and a runner.

34.   She gets drastic haircuts about every six months.

35.   I called her Gin-Gin when I was little because I couldn’t say Ginny.

Great post! There is nothing like sisters! I only wish I was as close with mine! We are so different but are finally reconnecting :)Loved the photo of the 3 of you so cute! And all smiles I know how hard those are to come by having a little girl!

I love this post! I am very close to my sister too – but I’m a twin! 🙂 I think you and your sister were probably twins just born years apart instead of five minutes!

Sisters are the best! Even though I love having sons, I really want one more girl, because the thought of Sera going through life without a sister is overwhelmingly sad. I always feel true pity when I meet a sisterless girl, I just don’t know how they survive! Sounds like you and Ginny take full advantage of the awesomeness of sisterhood!

Loved this list! I always wanted a sister. Now I have a 15-year-old sister-in-law, but I always wanted one to grow up with. And one who didn’t speak lingo that was too cool/teen/hip for me to understand.

P.S. I too always have Purell–your sis might already do this, but I buy the huuuuuuuge pump containers because they’re super cheap, and then fill up the small purse-sized ones. Also, for a stocking stuffer my uncle got some that are Purell pens! Genius.

I LOVE THIS! I swear, pretty soon I am going to become your next door neighbor/best friend/baby sitter/second sister 🙂 I always wanted a sister! She seems SUPER GREAT just like you! Its funny too because you both look so much alike and SO different at the same time!

#24 – Miss Gulf Breeze, as in Gulf Breeze, FL? My husband’s family lives in Pensacola and that’s where we were for Christmas too! Now I feel even super closer to you! Can we be travel buddies? 🙂

What a wonderful post Katie and it is to fun to get to know more about Ginny 😉 I wish both my daugters will have just a wonderful relationship just like both of you.

Both of you looked great there with Beanie 😀

Here’s wishing all the family a Happy New Year with good health and happiness always. Gosh…wish we could fly over to attend her wedding just like we did for yours 🙂

    Cheers

This gives me hope for my two girls…two years apart…that they will always be close. My older girl is a control freak and an introvert and my youngest is easy going (but does not like to be bossed, thank you very much) and an extrovert. Hopefully they won’t kill each other…

I really enjoyed this post. Thats great you and Ginny are close – so jealous!! I have 2 half sisters but am not close to them. But i am close to one of my brothers and always will be.

Happy New Year to you Katie, Chris and Beanie!!

i also freak out about eyeballs, i completely understand. it actually kept me from continuing emt/paramedic training, well that and the fact that i wanted babies, lots and lots of babies…i see a trend here.

  • Michelle

That is sooo funny about the baby thing… all of them that you wrote about. I also think she will be having babies very, very soon but once told her that and let’s just say she wasn’t very happy with me… lol. Denial!

This makes me want a sister so bad. It really shows how much you love each other. Number 4 and 17 are absolutely wonderful!!
