Christmas, 2009 (in 25 seconds or less)

I have been staring at all my pictures from this past week’s Christmas vacation for several days now, trying to figure out how to organize all the fun we had into a blog post.   Or several blog posts.   Or an entire website.   We had so much fun and made so many wonderful memories that it would be impossible for me to go into detail on every event without taking up an entire years worth of blog posts.   And, let’s face it.   I don’t have that kind of time and you’re probably not that interested.

So, let’s stop pretending and just do a quick recap in pictures (cause they’re the most fun anyway…).   Ready?   Here we go:

OUR CHRISTMAS IN 25 SECONDS OR LESS

We got on the plane and Bean was incredibly good.   Read about that part HERE.

Bean and Chris in the airport

We got to Chris’ mom’s house to find that she had borrowed any type of baby product/tool/item that we might ever need.   Beanie had a swing, a bouncer seat, a playmat, a pack-n-play (which was really helpful because we forgot ours – oops).   We were all set.

(Bean liked to eat his playmat.   Its what big boys do.)

On Sunday morning, Bean was baptized in our hometown church.   My hair inflated.   Read about that HERE.

We hung out for a few days at Chris’ dad’s house.   That made one very happy Granddaddy.

Bean wondered why Granddaddy’s house was so clean and neat and had no drool anywhere on anything.   In about 2.5 seconds, Bean took care of that for Granddaddy.

Later that night, Chris and I enjoyed the presence of Grandparents and we went bowling…

…and I had too much to drink.   Which would be two beers, in case you’re wondering.

The next day we hung out at the urgent care clinic for Bean’s ear infection.   Read about that HERE.

Bean felt better on Wednesday and so we decided it was time to meet The Big Man – Santa Claus.   Bean slept in his stroller for the first 30 minutes that we stood in line and I kept looking around at all the other screaming children, thinking, “Those mom’s are just not doing enough to keep their kids calm.   Why can’t everyone be a mother like me?”

And then Bean woke up and thought to himself, “Someone needs to get my moms head out of her behind,” and he thought he was just the person for the job.   The kid woke up SCREAMING and he proceeded to scream for the next 30 minutes that we waited in line.   He cried so much that by the time we got up to Santa, he was sweaty and sticky and slobbery.   Not attractive, Bean.

But he did manage to calm himself down long enough to actually smile for a picture with a very grumpy Santa.

That night we had Christmas with my sister, Ginny, and her fiance, John Michael.   John Michael is from our hometown, too, and so they were there visiting his family.   We met at his mom’s house and opened presents.   Bean received 1,739 gifts.   Give or take a few.   After presents, we went out for Mexican.   Feliz Navidad.

The next day was Christmas Eve which we spent with Chris’ grandparents (the same ones who threw us the baptism brunch.   Keep up people!).   The only picture I took was the dinner table and then I got distracted by the food and the Santa tracker on the news.

The next day was BEAN’S FIRST CHRISTMAS!!!   It might have been my favorite day with him so far in his short little life.   I know he’s only 6 months old and he still does things like suck on his socks and chew on Molly’s tail, but I think he understood Christmas morning.   He just looked…jolly…and his belly shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly.

After Christmas morning at Chris’ mom’s house, we headed over to his Grandparent’s house for gifts.

After presents, we packed up and went down the street to Chris’ Granddaddy’s brother’s house (are you keeping up with all these family members?   There will be a quiz on this stuff…).   There, we got to see a bunch of family that we haven’t seen in a while.   It was Bean’s first time meeting most of them.   The best part was that all of the cousins that are mine and Chris’s age just had babies within about 3 months of each other.   There were four babies there!

These are two of Chris’ cousins.   They are sisters and they each had their first babies within 3 months of each other!   The babies are, naturally, just as pretty as their mommas.

(P.S. Bean looked like a stud muffin at the Christmas morning breakfast.)

We packed up and flew home the next day.   It was a great trip.   Really, really great.   I couldn’t have asked for a better first Christmas for Beanie.   But after all of that fun, there really is no place like home.   And I’m so happy to be back!
